Family Sessions

If you are thinking about booking a session you probably have loads of questions, so hopefully the following info should help. If you have any other questions don’t hesitate to get in touch.

How does it work?

Your Session

Once you have decided you want to do a shoot with me get in touch using the contact info on the site. We will discuss all aspects of the shoot including dates, location, outfits, props, concepts etc. Once we have everything confirmed I will ask you to fill in a booking form/model release online and will request your session fee in advance to secure the booking.

When

As I like to use natural light in my photographs where possible, so I want to get you out and about. The best time of day to shoot is the last hour before the sun goes down and the first hour it comes up. This is when the sun is low in the sky providing the most beautiful light. Ideally we will try and schedule the shoot for those times.

Where

I often go to Richmond Park, Barnes Common, The Wetlands Centre, Hampstead Heath, Kew Gardens and gorgeous locations like these, however if you have a special place near you, or a favourite place you go as a family, lets go there. I am also happy to come to your home if you prefer that, or split the shoot between home and a local park.

What to wear

In terms of clothes, I have a crib sheet I can send you, but essentially try and avoid anything with logo’s or pictures on the front or anything that will date easily. Neutral colours work best, denim, greys, blues, pastels etc.. Try and think about your family as a whole so that your outfits work together but aren’t too matchy matchy.   Bring accessories with you, hats, scarves etc are always welcome. Also bring a change of clothes if you like. You could always bring any favourite toys, blankets to sit on etc.. I often advise parents to bring a large selection of clothes to the shoot that we can go through together before we start.

What is the best age to take pictures?

For pregnancy pictures, the best time is between 32 and 38 weeks as the bump will be nice and big and we don’t have much of a risk of you going into labour before the scheduled shoot.

For newborns, as early as possible. Ideally within the first 2 weeks when they are all scrunched up and sleepy and fresh.

For babies, anytime is good, but sitting up unaided is best as you can catch their attention, make them smile and interact and they can’t get away. As soon as they are crawling we enter a whole different photoshoot!

For kids, well any time really. I never expect a toddler to stand still, or sit where they are told for more than 2 seconds so please bear that in mind when booking. If they don’t usually sit still and smile on demand for you, it is unlikely that I will be able to make them do that either! This doesn’t mean we can’t get gorgeous photographs however!

How long does it take?

Your session will take anything from 1 – 2 hours depending on how the child/children are doing.  I always advise bringing a snack and drink and any bribe worthy treats your kids may respond well to!

What happens next?

Once the session is finished I will start work on your pictures, and within 2 weeks will set up your online gallery so you can see the final edited photographs. There will be around 30 photographs in this gallery. You will get to choose your favourite image for your 8×10” print as well. Then if you want further prints or frames from your session you just let me know. I have a full price list available with loose prints and frames.
